About data sources
Driving distances come from free, open-data services built on OpenStreetMap:
- Nominatim converts addresses to map coordinates. Limit: 1 request per second, no bulk use.
- OSRM demo server calculates the driving route. It is a free community server with no uptime guarantee.
Each lookup sends the two addresses you type to these services. If a lookup fails, switch to Enter miles and type the distance yourself. Gasculator never substitutes straight-line distance.
Vehicle lists and fuel economy come from FuelEconomy.gov (U.S. Department of Energy / EPA), a free public service. EPA MPG ratings are estimates; your actual mileage will vary. Lookups are cached in this browser for up to 90 days.
